UEFA üyesi ülkelerden bir spor gazetecileri heyeti tarafından değerlendirilen 1996 yılında Avrupa'nın en iyi futbolcusuna verilen 1996 Ballon d'Or, 24 Aralık 1996 tarihinde Alman futbolcu Matthias Sammer'e verildi.[1]
