English: This is a pencil illustration drawn in May 2020 by Spencer Alexander McDaniel depicting a scene from Euripides's tragedy The Bacchae in which the god Dionysos leads King Pentheus of Thebes into the forest so that he can be killed by the mainads. In this scene, Dionysos and Pentheus are both disguised as women and dressed up in Dionysian attire, complete with thyrsoi and ivy. Dionysos is portrayed with long hair and pale skin, in keeping with the description of him given by Pentheus in an earlier scene of the play. Dionysos's dress is purple, symbolizing his status as the god of wine. The labels beside the figures say, in Greek, "Pentheus" and "Lord Dionysos [the] Liberator."
