I was once in Turkey for about 10 days (in Kushadasi near Izmir). I cannot understand Turkish at all, but there are a LOT of miscellaneous words that I do understand.

I am from Bosnia (Bosna), more specifically Sarajevo (Saraybosna). I understand many Turkish words (because we also use them), like: baklava, džamija (cami), Bajram (Bayram), etc... What makes it easier is that Turkish also has a phonetic writing system like Bosnian (one sound - one letter).
